Welcome to Retina International!

Welcome!

On behalf of Retina International, I am delighted to welcome you to our newly developed website.

Retina International is made up of 43 members who represent patient-led charities and foundations across the globe that are working to improve the lives of people affected by retinal dystrophies, through fostering research and supporting the development of health policy to improve lives.

Since it was founded in 1978, our organisation has been providing the most up to date information to a patient community eager for news on the development of research that has the potential to become therapies and cures for age-related, rare and genetically inherited forms of retinal dystrophy.

In 1978, communications relied on long distance phone calls and newsletters. As technology advanced, our ability to communicate became more efficient and information more readily available. Now, in 2020, with so many ways in which information can be provided and with such an amount of information to be understood, Retina International relies on the advice of the members it serves to direct us on how this can be provided effectively.

Our community answered, clear, concise and with real voices was the answer.

We have listened and to this end, we are delighted to unveil our new stripped back clean and lean website that we hope will make the experience of information delivery better for our members and stakeholders.

The membership of Retina International has been clear, insightful and instructive in how they wanted the site to look and feel. Many pointed to the overuse of imagery and underuse of audio visual elements on the site.

In answer to these requests we have removed imagery from the site and replaced it with a suite of abstract shapes and colours that will highlight particular resources and act as a guide on our site. Imagery and graphics will be added to the site where appropriate, but will be used sparingly.

New podcasts, videos and webinars to provide information and capacity building resources that are more user friendly will be added.

The site is a work in progress and with this in mind we are seeking your feedback to allow us to make the necessary improvements over the coming weeks.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to the new site and look forward to building this site with you and for you so that it can be as useful as possible.

The re-development of this site was made possible through an unrestricted educational grant from Novartis.

Enjoy your visit!
