RI Statement on Conflict in Ukraine

Retina International expresses concern for those living with Retinal Degenerations in Ukraine.

People living with retinal degenerative diseases require the support of a functioning society to ensure continued access to essential services, including rehabilitation and equipment as well as ophthalmology appointments and therapies.

Retina International is concerned for the welfare of those living in Ukraine who are affected by Inherited Retinal Degenerations and Age-related Eye Diseases. Today we call on the European Union, the United Nations, the WHO and other humanitarian organisations, as well as the international community at large, to protect this vulnerable group and to provide them with assistance both in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

Retina International will work with its members and partners to understand the growing needs and challenges faced by people living with retinal degenerative disease impacted by this conflict, as well as those who provide their care, in order to assist policy makers in addressing them effectively.

We wish to convey our support to the Ukrainian people and all who are caught up in conflict as we hope for a peaceful resolution.
