Presenting at ECRD 2026
Retina International is pleased to announce that we will be presenting new research at the European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products 2026, taking place in Prague on 3rd and 4th June 2026.
Our poster, “Emotional and Psychological Wellbeing in People Living with Inherited Retinal Degenerations (IRDs): Results of a Multinational Survey,” has been selected for presentation during the conference’s Day 2 Poster Pitch Session.
The study explores an often-overlooked aspect of inherited retinal diseases: the emotional and psychological impact of living with progressive vision loss. While research and clinical discussions frequently focus on diagnosis, treatment, and disease progression, the broader effects on mental well-being, independence, relationships, confidence, and everyday life are equally important.
Drawing on responses from people living with inherited retinal degenerations across multiple countries, the survey provides valuable insight into the lived experience of vision loss. It highlights the need for more holistic, patient-centred approaches to care and support.
The findings contribute to a growing body of evidence demonstrating that the impact of retinal disease extends far beyond vision alone. By better understanding these experiences, researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and patient organisations can work together to ensure that emotional well-being is recognised as a critical component of patient care.
Retina International CEO Avril Daly and Head of Communications Claire Duggan will attend ECRD 2026, with Claire presenting the poster during the conference.
