Retina International is pleased to participate in an upcoming Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Special Interest Group (SIG) session focused on outcome measures for very low vision and the future development of the HOVER 2.0 guidelines.
Titled “Outcome Measures for Very Low Vision – HOVER 2.0,” the session will bring together international experts in vision and retinal research, clinical trials, and outcome measure development to discuss emerging approaches to measuring outcomes in very low vision therapies.
The original HOVER guideline document, published in 2020 in Translational Vision Science & Technology (TVST), provided recommendations for the measurement and reporting of outcomes in very low vision clinical trials. Since then, the fields of gene therapy, stem cell therapy, restorative therapies, and low vision intervention research have evolved rapidly, creating a growing need to revisit and expand these guidelines.
The session will contribute to the development of the new HOVER 2.0 document and provide an opportunity for discussion around current and emerging clinical trial design, patient-centred outcome measures, and evolving approaches to assessing meaningful treatment benefit in people living with very low vision.
The SIG is organised by Prof. Lauren Ayton from The University of Melbourne and Ben Thompson from the University of Waterloo, and moderated by Ruth Hamilton from the University of Glasgow.
The session will also feature contributions from experts across the low vision and retinal research community, including Michael Bach from the University Medical Center Freiburg, Germany, Jasleen Jolly from the University of Melbourne, Australia, Adam Dubis from the University of Utah, USA and our CEO Avril Daly.
