The Genetic Testing Landscape in Europe 2020
The Genetic Testing Landscape in Europe 2020.
This study examined access to genetic testing for inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) across 18 countries. A genetic diagnosis can help patients understand how their condition may progress, how it could be inherited by family members, and whether they may qualify for clinical trials or future treatments.
The findings revealed major differences between countries in the availability, affordability and awareness of genetic testing and counselling. In some countries, patients must pay themselves, join research studies or travel abroad to access testing.
