Cost of Illness Study of Inherited Retinal Diseases in the USA and Canada

Cost of Illness Study of Inherited Retinal Diseases in the USA and Canada.

This study examined the financial and social impact of inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) in the USA and Canada, using surveys of patients and parents of children with these conditions.

The findings showed that the greatest costs were linked to reduced well-being and quality of life, followed by lost work opportunities and reduced productivity. People with IRDs were less likely to be in paid employment than the general population. In comparison, direct healthcare costs accounted for a smaller proportion of the overall burden.
