Lighting Up the Retina: Join FARPE’s Inspiring Lights Campaign

Retina International is proud to support the Federation of Associations of Inherited Retinal Dystrophies of Spain (FARPE) and its Foundation FUNDALUCE in their growing international campaign, Inspiring Lights: We Light Up the Retina.

What began in 2021 in the small town of Fuente del Maestre, Extremadura, has since become a powerful symbol of hope and solidarity.

In 2023, over 80 municipalities across Spain took part in this awareness initiative. In 2024, that number nearly doubled to 159 towns and cities. Now, FARPE and FUNDALUCE are extending the reach of this campaign beyond Spain’s borders, and are calling on international partners to help raise awareness of inherited retinal dystrophies.

What Is the Inspiring Lights Campaign?

The campaign invites towns and cities to illuminate a representative building in blue and green lights on Retina Day, which this year falls on Sunday, September 28, 2025. The symbolic act aims to:

  • Show support for people living with inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs)
  • Promote early diagnosis and public awareness
  • Encourage research and innovation
  • Advocate for improved access to care

By shining a light on these issues, participating municipalities send a powerful message of inclusion and visibility.
