Retina International is pleased to share that the recording of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) workshop on Geographic Atrophy (GA) endpoints is now available to watch.
The workshop brought together regulators, clinicians, researchers, industry representatives and patient representatives to explore an important question: how can treatment benefit in Geographic Atrophy be measured in ways that reflect what truly matters to patients?
As treatments for GA continue to advance, determining meaningful and relevant endpoints is increasingly important. While measures such as visual acuity and retinal imaging remain important, patient experience can provide valuable insight into how changes in vision and disease progression affect everyday life.
Patient perspectives were embedded throughout the workshop, with Retina International and its members contributing to discussions across a range of topics, including visual function, imaging, patient-reported outcomes, quality of life and emerging measures of functional vision.
Retina International contributions
Avril Daly, CEO of Retina International, delivered the Opening Statement on Patient Perspective and also contributed to the session on imaging endpoints.
Dr Nabin Paudel, Director of Research, Patient Evidence and Programmes at Retina International, contributed to discussions on potential visual functional endpoints, including microperimetry and reading speed.
Franz Badura, Chair of Retina International, contributed to discussions around visual acuity and contrast-based outcomes.
Alba Perez, from Retina International member organisation FARPE, brought the patient perspective to discussions on patient-reported outcomes, quality of life and treatment burden.
Inga Britt, from Retina International member organisation The Norwegian Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted, contributed to discussions on emerging functional vision endpoints and future directions.
The strong patient representation throughout the workshop highlighted the importance of ensuring that patient experience is considered alongside clinical and scientific measures when defining treatment benefit.
We are proud to have contributed to this important conversation and to help ensure that the development and assessment of future treatments for Geographic Atrophy reflects the experiences and priorities of the people who will ultimately use them.
