Education Hub

Background

There is an increasing demand for patient involvement in medical innovation at research, industry, and policy levels. Retina International (RI) has observed an unmet need amongst its community, where the knowledge and skills to effectively engage in an advisory or advocacy capacity are not developed.

This inspired the creation of the Retina International Education Hub. Developed by past RI Education and Engagement Manager Fiona Waters with the support of subject matter experts and patients, this six-month training and skills development programme focuses on education, participation, and innovation. The course uses a blended learning approach consisting of independent e-learning, interactive virtual discussion seminars and skills development workshops.

We’re delighted to announce that are now recruiting for the third annual Education Hub.

Timeline

This course will take place over six months; from October 20th until March 15th 2024.

Testimonials

The below is anonymous feedback received from the participants of the 2021 Education Hub.

  • “I really enjoyed learning about other countries’ genetic testing processes, and comparing and finding gaps where we may be able to help.”
  • “I love how we went into the history of ethics, and then discussed different scenarios. It was fascinating to hear other people’s opinions. I love the open discussion setting.”
  • “The wide range of benefits and options that were discussed about different registries was fascinating. I am very intrigued to find out more about the LHON repository to see how we can adopt some of the same principles.”
