Patient and caregiver burden in advanced Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Patient and caregiver burden in advanced Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

This study explored how advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects patients and their caregivers in Bulgaria, Germany and the USA.

Many patients reported difficulties with work, driving and everyday activities. More than one-third had experienced a fall, accident or burn in the previous year, while 44% reported anxiety and 33% reported depression. Patients with wet AMD generally attended eye appointments more frequently than those with geographic atrophy.

Caregivers also faced significant challenges, including helping with shopping and transport, taking time off work and managing the impact on their own daily lives and mental well-being.
