Burden of geographic atrophy and treatment expectations of therapies: perspectives from patient-driven research funding and support organizations

Burden of geographic atrophy and treatment expectations of therapies: perspectives from patient-driven research funding and support organizations.

This study explored the challenges faced by people living with geographic atrophy (GA), an advanced form of dry age-related macular degeneration that causes gradual, irreversible vision loss.

Although treatments aim to slow the progression of the disease and help preserve remaining vision, there is limited understanding of what patients consider meaningful treatment outcomes.

The study gathered perspectives from leaders of patient organisations involved in retinal research funding and patient support to better understand the impact of GA on daily life and patients’ expectations of current and future treatments.
