Geographic Atrophy Impact and Treatment expectations Consensus study

Geographic atrophy (GA), an advanced form of dry AMD, impacts over 5 million people globally and leads to progressive, irreversible vision loss. Despite the significant economic impact, there is limited awareness among stakeholders resulting in inadequate research investment and few therapies.

Current approaches to GA treatment aim to prevent and reduce disease progression and preserve remaining vision. However, there is no clear consensus on what constitutes a meaningful treatment outcome for patients, as perspectives may differ between stakeholders.

Retina International recently carried out at study to provide patient leaders’ perspectives on the challenges faced by people living with GA and treatment expectations of current and potential therapies.

Our goal was to increase awareness of disease burden and offer realistic treatment expectations of therapies from patients’ viewpoints. Study findings can be read in detail on a pre-print platform via this link.

A report on the consensus study from patient leaders regarding the impact/burden of Geographic Atrophy and treatment expectations of current and future potential therapies for GA was recently presented to members and stakeholders at a recent webinar.
