Position: Communications and Engagement Manager

Role Summary

Retina International is a global umbrella organisation for patient-led charities and foundations who support research into rare, genetically inherited and age-related retinal conditions. RI believes that education of our international patient community leading to informed and effective participation in health research and policy is a key driver in successful innovation that benefits all.

Overview

Employment Type: One-year full time contract

Location: Dublin, Ireland

Salary: Competitive

Main Duties

Community Engagement

  • Project manage capacity building programmes for patients, including the Retina International Education Hub
  • Facilitate the involvement of RI membership in RI projects and initiatives through focus groups, taskforces, and special interest groups (SIGs)
  • Act as a point of contact for member enquiries
  • Oversee the Retina International Youth Council
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members and key external stakeholders

Communications

  • Moderate and coordinate events, conferences, & webinars upon request
  • Where requested, represent Retina International and its interests in external fora, including conferences, advisory boards, etc.
  • Develop and disseminate communications materials such as newsletters, surveys, press releases, blog posts, publications, web pages and scientific literature
  • Lead in-house production of multimedia content: podcasts, webinars, graphics, infographics, video clips
  • Manage Retina International online presence including websites and social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) by regularly collecting and analysing performance, developing and implementing a social media strategy, and posting and sharing social media content, in line with WCAG 2.1 guidelines

 

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Communications, Health Promotion or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and tact
  • Team player with strong multicultural skills; experience working in an NGO or membership organisation is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (native or near-native speaker); a second language is an asset.
  • Experience running social media accounts in a professional capacity
  • Competency with software and platforms including MS Office, WordPress, Canva, MailChimp, YouTube, Survey Monkey
  • Ability to manage online meetings and webinars via platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Skilled multi-tasker who values high-quality delivery of outputs
  • Interest in and understanding of the mission and values of Retina International
