In this week’s episode of the In-Focus podcast, Professor Juliana Sallum joins Avril on the podcast. Juliana is an ophthalmologist who specialises in Inherited Retinal Degenerations (IRDs) and Genetics, and is a Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In this podcast, Juliana takes us through the unprecedented challenges that she and her colleagues face as ophthalmologists during COVID-19, as well as the emergence of telemedicine which she expects will evolve as a key player within the clinical setting and in facilitating the provision of remote care to patients, particularly people in the ageing population, while also helping to relieving some of the strain on our healthcare systems.
Furthermore, Juliana discusses clinical trial research and how treatment intervals will be managed for patient participants to prioritise patient safety and minimise disruption to ongoing studies.
