Dry Eye Diagnosis

Dry Eye Diagnosis

Diagnosis of dry eye syndrome will focus on measuring the volume and quantity of your tears in the following tests:

  • Schirmer’s Test determines if the eye produces enough tears to keep it moist, it is usually performed in cases where there is excessive watering of the eyes. In this test, blotting strips of paper are placed under your lower eyelids. After five minutes your doctor measures the amount of strip soaked by your tears.
  • Special eye drops with dye are used to determine the surface condition of your eye. Your eye care specialist will look for staining patterns on your eye and how quickly your tears evaporate/drain.
